Community Update: Theft of Motorcycles & Mopeds We’ve recently seen an increase in thefts involving motorcycles and mopeds in the local area. Offenders are often targeting bikes that are left unsecured, parked in poorly lit areas, or left on display. We’re asking all residents, particularly those who own or use motorbikes or mopeds, to take extra precautions to protect their property. Please ensure you: Use a quality lock – Always secure your bike with a robust chain and padlock or disc lock, even if it’s only being left for a short time.Secure to an immovable object – Where possible, lock your bike to a ground anchor, lamppost, or fixed railings.Keep it out of sight – Store bikes in a garage or shed if available. If you must park outside, choose a well-lit, busy area covered by CCTV.Use additional security – Consider alarms, immobilisers, or tracking devices to increase protection and aid recovery.Cover your bike – A simple cover can deter opportunistic thieves by making it less visible and harder to identify.Be mindful of social media – Avoid posting clear photos of your bike or your location in real time.Protect your keys – Never leave keys in the ignition, and keep spare keys secure at home. And most importantly, stay alert. Be aware of suspicious behaviours like individuals checking bikes and their locks or circling the area unnecessarily. Report InformationIf a theft is in progress, call 999 immediately. For non-emergency information or to report suspicious activity, contact police on 101 or via the online reporting system.Any information, no matter how small, can help.
